Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy is a meaningful decision.
It is natural to have questions about the process, what to expect, and whether therapy with Conner Psychology feels like the right fit.
Below are answers to some common questions about working together.
About Therapy
-
Therapy with me is collaborative, thoughtful, and individualized. Our work will begin with understanding your experiences, current concerns, and what you hope to gain from therapy.
Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we will explore the experiences, relationships, and patterns that shape how you think, feel, and navigate life.
Sessions are conversational and tailored to you. Together, we will work toward greater self-understanding and intentional changes that align with the life you want to build.
-
I work with adults who are thoughtful, motivated, and navigating a period of change or feeling a little stuck. Many of my clients are balancing demanding careers, relationships, health, family, and the expectations they have for themselves.
You might be working through stress or burnout, a major life transition, relationship concerns, perfectionism, anxiety, changes in your health or habits, or simply a sense that something in your life isn't quite working the way you want it to.
You don't need to have a specific diagnosis—or even be able to clearly explain what's wrong—to begin therapy. Sometimes you just know that you want a space to slow down, make sense of things, and figure out what comes next.
-
No. Many people begin therapy because something feels difficult, different, or out of alignment—not because they have a specific diagnosis.
Therapy can be helpful for understanding yourself more deeply, navigating transitions, improving relationships, managing stress, or working through patterns that no longer feel helpful.
If you have received a diagnosis or are curious if you may have a specific diagnosis, this is something that can be explored in therapy.
-
Clinical psychologists receive extensive training in understanding human behavior, psychological assessment, and evidence-based treatment across multiple treatment modalities.
My background in clinical psychology, neuropsychology, and health behavior change informs a whole-person approach that considers your experiences, relationships, behaviors, health, and environment.
Therapy is not only about managing what feels difficult today. It is also about understanding yourself more deeply and creating changes that align with the life you want to build.
-
No. As a clinical psychologist, I do not prescribe medication. My practice focuses on psychotherapy.
If medication may be helpful as part of your care, we can discuss whether a consultation with a psychiatrist, primary care provider, or other qualified prescriber might be appropriate. With your permission, I can also collaborate with your other providers to support coordinated care.
-
Conner Psychology is an outpatient psychotherapy practice and is not a crisis or emergency service. I do not provide 24/7 crisis support, and messages, emails, and contact forms may not be monitored continuously.

Starting Therapy
-
The first session is an opportunity to begin getting to know each other and understand what brings you to therapy.
We will discuss your current concerns, relevant history, goals for therapy, and what you hope to gain from our work together. We will also talk about how therapy can be tailored to your needs.
You do not need to have everything figured out before starting.
-
Most clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions to build momentum and create consistency.
Over time, session frequency may change depending on your goals, needs, and progress.
-
Sessions are typically 45-55 minutes.
The first session is 60 minutes to allow for a thorough discussion of your history and creating a plan for your care.
-
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, concerns, and what you hope to accomplish.
Some clients seek focused support during a specific transition, while others value therapy as a longer-term space for self-understanding and personal growth.
Logistics & Investment
-
Conner Psychology is a self-pay practice and does not participate directly with insurance plans.
Many clients choose private-pay therapy because it allows for greater flexibility, privacy, and individualized care.
I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement varies by plan, so I recommend checking your benefits directly with your insurance provider.
-
The initial intake session is $200. This session includes an in-depth evaluation of your history, current symptoms, concerns, strengths, and goals, as well as creation of a specialized plan of care.
Individual therapy sessions are $175 per session.
Before beginning therapy, you will receive information about fees, policies, and your estimated cost of care.
-
Not at this time. Conner Psychology is currently an online-only practice.
-
Yes, Conner Psychology offers virtual psychotherapy for adults throughout Indiana & Michigan, allowing you to meet with me from a private, comfortable space that works for you.
Virtual therapy can make it easier to build therapy into the life you're already living. You can meet from home, during a lunch break, or from another private location that works for your schedule—without adding another trip across town.
-
Appointments are currently available Tuesday - Friday. Early morning and evening appointments are available on select days. Please feel free to reach out with questions or if you are ready to schedule.
-
A self-pay practice allows for a more individualized approach to care, including greater flexibility in treatment planning and protecting the privacy of your mental health records.
Many clients choose private-pay therapy because they value working with a psychologist who can provide specialized, personalized care.
Fit & Getting Started
-
You don't have to know before reaching out.
I work best with adults who are curious about themselves, open to exploring patterns and perspectives, and interested in making meaningful changes in their lives. You might come to therapy with a specific concern, or simply know that something isn't quite working and you want help figuring out why.
Fit also has a lot to do with the relationship we build. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and relational, and I want you to feel comfortable being honest and bringing your real experiences into the room.
If you're unsure whether my practice is right for you, you're welcome to contact me with questions or complete the inquiry form through my secure client portal. I'll review what you're looking for and can provide more information about my approach, availability, and whether my practice may be a good fit for your needs.
-
Many people begin therapy for the first time feeling unsure about what to expect.
You do not need to know exactly what to talk about or have a clear explanation for why you are seeking support. Part of therapy is creating a space where we can explore that together.
-
Many people begin therapy with a strong sense of self-awareness. They may understand where certain patterns come from, recognize their triggers, or have spent time reflecting on what they want to change.
Awareness is an important first step, but understanding why something happens does not always make it easier to respond differently. Therapy can provide space to explore these patterns more deeply and develop new ways of relating to yourself and your life.

Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to $100 late cancellation fee. I offer one courtesy late cancellation per calendar year without charge. No-show appointments will be charged the full session fee of $200.
I understand that unexpected circumstances arise. Illness, emergencies, severe weather, and other unavoidable situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Because your appointment time is reserved specifically for you, repeated late cancellations or missed appointments may lead us to reconsider the frequency or structure of your sessions.
